Embrace the Sunshine this Spring with a Glass Juliet Balcony
Don’t you just love spring? Open your windows and doors to the outside world; let in the sweet-smelling air and blow away the cobwebs as you hear birds singing happily in budding trees.
Spring is the time when your Juliet balcony comes into its own again. What better way to breathe life back into a bedroom or apartment than to open your doors wide and inhale the mild spring air as the sunshine floods through. And what could be nicer than leaning over your balcony early on a Sunday morning with a cup of tea, watching the world go by.

The curved door fulfils the architects’ vision for the Tate in St. Ives
Visitors to a new £20 million cliff-face extension at the Tate St Ives art gallery in Cornwall are brought closer to the Atlantic Ocean through an impressive curved sliding glass door.
The brief from the architect was to maximise the sea views and form a curved on plan door for the hemispherical domed Clore ’sky-studio’, which opens out onto a terrace and seating area.

The greatest source of free energy that exists on our earth is the power of the sun. Many countries harness that power and use it to their benefit.
Other countries do not have the means or the monetary resources to undertake a capital investment into the technology, for example, many African countries are in this category where the sun shines continually during the day light hours.
Unfortunately, and for many reasons, much of this free energy is currently discarded and we continually burn fossil fuel to heat and light our homes and power our electrical appliances.
There is nothing new about this and PV panels are more and more accessible and are becoming more popular than ever. But a large percentage of PV panels used are additions used solely for this purpose. Meaning they are not integrated into a product which would use glass anyhow.
Large expansive areas of glass on balustrading, balconies and roof terraces can be a valuable source of solar energy if they could be used to house solar panels.

Coastal Equals Corrosive
Coastline homes and apartments with sea views are the most expensive properties around. The intriguing lure of the ocean and seas have a special effect on us human beings.
Full height glass doors and windows are one way to enjoy this view but an external balcony overlooking the sea has been since the time of ancient Rome and Greece a pleasant amenity to enjoy life.

Refurbishing Buildings with Glass Balustrades
Retrofitting glass balconies onto an older property is an excellent way to update a building’s exterior. This isn’t difficult, provided the underlying structure is strong enough to hold the extra weight of the glass.
A “glass balcony” is a bit of a misnomer but used frequently, as generally the platform projecting out from the wall is not made of glass but if you have a sturdy platform, then the old railing come be taken off and a new glass balustrade attached to it and secured to the main structure of the building at the same time. Elsewhere, we have provided more information about the various balcony structures that exist.

How do you choose the correct method to fix a balcony to your structure and what are the advantages of each option.
These are balconies constructed in a manner so that the balcony protrudes from the face of the building without any visible supports other than the fixing to the face of the building. The weight and imposed loads are supported by cantilevering the structure off the wall. These balconies will not need or have gallow brackets or chains. This type of balcony, while possessing the most aesthetic end result, will require to be designed in advance and will impose larger point loads on the building. This type of balcony cannot be added on but must be predesigned.
